Horton heard a Who! and comes to their rescue, to save their lives! (c.f: “Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss)
Pro-life M.P. Stephen Woodworth also heard a call to save lives. He knows, like Horton, that “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” With Motion 312, he’s now on a mission to prove the ‘personhood’, ‘the humanity’, of the smallest of them all….the baby in the womb.
Just days prior to the “National March for Life, 2012, in Ottawa, Ontario”, a series of events got my undivided attention to the fact that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.” In other words the person (human being) in the womb of a woman is a person, no matter how small.
It all began when I heard a friend tell the story about the children’s book “Horton Hears A Who!” by Dr. Seuss. The next day I was loaned the book to read and read it immediately. I was profoundly moved by its message. A few days later, on May 10, 2012 I was on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Ontario participating in the annual “National March for Life” with some 19, 500+ vibrant pro-lifers, young and old.
Amongst all of the various, wonderful signs being held up for the world to see, two of them in particular caught my attention! They read, to my great surprise and delight: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
This saying is the central message of this wonderful children’s book by Dr. Seuss. It must be heard and understood and believed by every Canadian. Only then will every unborn Canadian child be guaranteed the right to ‘LIFE’ In the story, ‘Horton’, the very compassionate, pro-life elephant works tirelessly to save the lives of the ‘Whos’ from death, by proving that even though no one else in the jungle could ‘see’ them, nor ‘ hear’ them, they did exist and that “they were ‘persons’, no matter how small!”
This excellent book, which, in my opinion, every Canadian should read, illustrates so well the goal, the mission behind ‘Motion 312’ (c.f: stephenwoodworth.ca) being put forward by ‘Stephen Woodworth, M.P.’.
Motion 312 asks for the Canadian government to have Science examine if what is in the womb of a pregnant woman is truly a human being. This is because the present law in Section 221(1) of the Canadian Criminal Code states that: “A child becomes a human being only ‘after’ it is born and is completely outside of its mother’s womb.
Thanks to Science, thanks to the invention of the ‘ultrasound’, the ‘King of Abortion’, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, in 1984 witnessed ‘the silent scream’ of the baby he was aborting. He knew he had murdered the smallest of persons, the baby in the womb of a woman. He never aborted another baby after that. He later became one of the greatest pro-life advocates!
The ultrasound allowed him to see ‘inside’ the womb. He realized that it was a ‘person’ he was murdering, even though it was so small!. He stated afterwards: “Ultrasound opened up a new world. For the first time we could really see the human fetus, measure it, observe it, watch it, and indeed bond with it and love it. I began to do that.” (The Hand of God, A Journey from Death To Life By The Abortion Doctor Who Changed His Mind, Bernard N. Nathanson, M.D., Regnery Pub., Inc., Washington, D.C., 1996, p125)
He continues: “After my exposure to ultrasound, I began to rethink the prenatal phase of life…When I began to study fetology, it dawned on me, finally, that the prenatal nine months are just another band in the spectrum of life….To disrupt or abort a life at this point is intolerable-it is a crime. I don’t make any bones about using that word: Abortion is a crime.” (C.F: “Homily at the Funeral of Bernard N. Nathanson, M.D. by Rev. Gerald E. Murray, J.C.D.)
Dr. Nathanson’s statement is echoed by the words of Pope Benedict XVI (Feb 27, 2006): “God’s love does not differentiate between the newly conceived human infant still in his or her mother’s womb and the child or young person, or the adult and the elderly person. God does not distinguish between them because he sees an impression of his own image and likeness in each one.” ( c.f: Genesis 1:27) The important point here is that God’s image and likeness is impressed on the human being at all stages of its life, from conception till natural death. It is a ‘human being, a ‘person’ right from the moment of conception onwards.
Dr. Bernard N. Nathanson ‘King of Abortions’, had his ‘moment of truth’ by the wonderful scientific tool of the ultrasound and recognized the ‘personhood’ , ‘the humanity’ of the baby in the womb. This is the type of scientific knowledge that ‘Motion 312’ will bring forth for M.Ps and all Canadians to see and understand the truth about the unborn human being in the womb of a woman.
So, like ‘Horton’, who rescued the ‘Whos’ from death, let us all ‘rise up as one’ and support ‘Motion 312’ put forward by Stephen Woodworth. Please call your M.P., ( www.canada.gc.ca) now and ask him to support Motion 312!
Please also read the book “ Horton Hears A Who!” by Dr. Seuss. I guarantee you’ll love it, and please watch ‘The Silent Scream’, then you’ll understand, without a doubt, the wisdom and importance of Motion 312.
The lives of millions of present and future unborn Canadians depend on the passing of this motion! Please pass the word around to everyone you meet, so we can then all believe and say: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” And “What is in the womb of a woman from the moment of conception, is a person, a human, no matter how small.”
